Cherry Springs State Park
The 82-acre Cherry Springs State Park is nearly as remote and wild today as it was two centuries ago. Night sky enthusiasts flock to the park for its dark skies which are famous for great views of the Milky Way, planets, and hard-to-see astronomical objects and phenomena.
The park is surrounded by the 262,000-acre Susquehannock State Forest. The Susquehannock Trail passes nearby and offers 85 miles of backpacking and hiking.
Prouty Place State Park
The five-acre Prouty Place State Park is five miles southwest of PA 44 along Long Toe Road. This remote park offers access to hunting, fishing, and hiking within the surrounding Susquehannock State Forest.
Denton Hill State Park
Denton Hill State Park is located in the upper reaches of the Pennsylvania Wilds. Situated on the northern slope of Denton Hill, the park’s elevation ranges from 1800 to 2400 feet above sea-level. The steep grade of the park facilitated the establishment of a downhill ski area and lodge when then site was developed in the 1950s and 1960s.
Throughout the remainder of the year, Denton Hill State Park serves as a unique setting for a variety of recreational events. Additionally, hikers can find year-round access to the Susquehannock State Forest.
Susquehannock State Forest
The 265,000-acre Susquehannock State Forest is located in Potter, Clinton, and McKean Counties. The forest grows some of the most productive strands of black cherry trees in the world, and is one of eight state forests located in the Pennsylvania Wilds region.
Popular recreational activities include hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, ATV riding, picnicking, fishing, and camping.
